New Sex
sounds great, doesn't it? It is catchy for sure and gets you
wondering what could possibly be new about sex?
Well, in 2000 I had a client who had developed a training video for
How To Give A G Spot
Orgasm - he called it NEW SEX NOW. The only
problem was that he couldn't market it as a training video because
the rest of the world considered it porn.
I was
faced with convincing the world that it was in fact a training
video - that looked pretty much like porn, but it wasn't. 20
years ago selling porn was not that easy...if you know what I mean.
There are rules in advertising.
It has never been easy to market sex. Ever. 20 years
ago it was much more difficult.
My concept was to create a set of commercials that commuters during
drive time would look forward to hearing. Like vignettes
acted out on the radio by different characters. The listener
would hear the catchy jingle and they would know that a "New Sex
Diary" story was about to be told - Genious - to this day!
All direct response was to an 800 call center - there was no
buying it online, not even for porn.
This weekend I found the CD Master in my garage. I had
thought it was lost forever.
New Sex Diaries campaign, was never approved for air due to
sexual content - not even by KROCK in Los Angeles.
Too bad there wasn't IGTV, Youtube, Sirius XM, or podcasting back
then!
